San Pedro Housing--Part I--Single Family Homes

 Housing Part I--Single Family Homes

In the past I posted some pictures of some of the condominiums on this island.  There are quite a few and most of them are fairly new, well-kept, and upscale.  The problem is that the “locals” do not live in these condos.

To get an idea of what the local housing is really like, Gail and I went on a picture taking tour.  We tried to get an honest cross section of the homes on the island to show the entire spectrum of local housing options.

(If you click on the pictures and enlarge them you will see that the details of the nice houses are quite wonderful and the details of the not so nice houses are sad.)

We found quite a large variance in what is available.  Some are very nicely done with architectural features that look very much like Mexico.
There are a few that are in more of a North American style.
Unlike Bella Vista, Arkansas, many of the houses are painted in very bright colors.
(Looking at this house I am pretty sure it is a duplex.)
Here is a very nice house with an outdoor space on the roof and a swimming pool.
Many of the homes are quite modest.  (You will note that many of the houses are built up in the air to avoid flooding during a storm.)

Some are new and well kept.
Some of the homes are very unique and were constructed with the potential flooding from hurricanes in mind.
Many of the homes do not have “grass” yards but landscaping is still important.  Fortunately, this climate makes growing plants pretty easy.
Bougainvillea
Hibiscus

Morning Glory

Overall, we found quite a large number of very nice single family homes.
