Computer Challenges

We do have WIFI in our condo complex and that is wonderful.   We can communicate with email, Skype, and our Majic Jack phone—all for free.  I can’t imagine how hard it would be to keep in touch without the internet.
The only problem is that the WIFI antenna is run up the outside of the building next door.  It runs up the front of the building on the ocean side.  All of the walls in our condo are concrete and a signal will not go through them.  Therefore, we have to have our computers outside in order to use them.  If we are on our veranda, pointing towards the building next door, we can usually get signal strength of two bars.  If we go down by the pool, or in the palapa, and point the computer back towards the building, we can get at least three or four bars.
The problem with using the computers outside is that there is a terrible glare from the sun on the screen.  It makes it almost impossible to see what is on the screen.
The other day I walked out on the veranda and there was Gail with a towel draped over head and over the computer.  She looked like she was trying to develop pictures in a dark room.  I guess it worked though.
I am finding that you definitely have to be flexible down here.
