Have no idea what time we got up today—we have no watches, no cell phones, and the clock on the microwave does not work, so the only way to know is accessing the internet. Had a couple cups of coffee and toast with pineapple marmalade—pretty good.
We road our bicycles into town to the Belize Bank and filled out an application for a checking account. Not an easy thing to do. They are very concerned about money laundering I guess.
When we came out of the bank we decided to walk around a little rather than ride the bikes. Bad idea. No more than ten steps and we were hijacked into a three hour presentation on buying a vacation time share. Gail did win a week stay at this very nice resort for four people any time during the next year. Oh yah, they bought us lunch too!
On the way home we stopped and bought a bottle of wine—no box wine here. I am going to have to slow down on the wine appetite. It is very expensive.
We also stopped at the water distribution company to get a dispenser for bottled water. We have been told that in our resort the water is not chlorinated. I guess you can still drink it but you might end up looking like you are the result of inbreeding.
We also got a big bottle of water which I had to carry a couple blocks and then upstairs to our condo. When I put the bottle on the dispenser, of course it leaked. Tomorrow we will have to get a new dispenser and start over.
Right now I am out on our “veranda” looking out over the ocean where a sail boat is slowing moving between us and the reef. It is almost dark-the sun is down but the cloud formations on the horizon are really spectacular.
Off to eat leftovers from last night and watch TV. By the way, we get a hundred or so channels for free. The cost if you live here is only $20 Belize-$10 US per month including movies and two pay-per-view channels. A little pirating going on I think.
More later.
