Grocery Stores

People have asked about the grocery stores here on the island.
I would say there are at least fifty if you count the little fruit and vegetable stands everywhere.

These are a great place to buy fresh bananas, oranges, limes, etc.
There is one big, modern, place called the Island Super Market.
It has just about everything you could want.

It is the only place on the island that I have been able to find Graham Crackers.  It also has things like Suede Cleaner.  However, nobody shops there.  The prices are outrageous.  For example, a box of Graham Crackers is $14.95 Belize, or $7.50 US.
We do a lot of shopping at a place called Marinas.

It is small (the size of a one car garage), only two aisles, but has some of the best prices.

We have a new store called the Butcher Shop.

It is run by a German and although it does not have a large selection it does have some of the best brats going.  It has one small refrigerated display case.  They make their own sausage and brats in the back room.
A place on Middle Street we like is called the Green House.  It has a lot of American type things other stores do not have and at very good prices—comparatively speaking.  It is one of the few places, for example, you can find a good head of lettuce.  They sell lobster tails there for $20 Belize a pound.  That gives you about three or four lobster tails for $10 US.  They also have baby backed ribs, pork tenderloin, T Bone steaks, etc.

It is small, also about the size of a one car garage, but they pack a lot of things in a small space.

Very close by is a small grocery store we also like because of the prices—we buy cereal there for $6.50 Belize or $3.25 US a box.

Probably our favorite place so far is the Super Buy South.  It is close to us, has most of the basics we need, and the prices are pretty good.

Soon I will try to cover some of the prices and how you really have to be careful when shopping.
