Trivia

Trivia
There are a number of miscellaneous items about Belize that are interesting.
For example, when you fly into San Pedro you can use one of two airlines, Maya Island Air or Tropic Air.  They both have their terminals right next to each other and both are about twenty yards off the main street.  Up until two years ago their airport facilities for greeting people were just two double wide trailers.  Now the runways have been upgraded to pavement but the taxi ways are still gravel.  Tropic Air has a better facility for handling luggage now but Maya Island Air has not been upgraded as much.
All of the buildings here are painted bright colors and often their yards are used to store their boats.  This a picture of the backyard right behind our condo.

There are dogs everywhere here.  All of them are friendly.  Some have owners but many just adopt the tourists while they are staying here.  Sometimes the tourists actually get so attached they take the dogs home with them.

The beer of choice here is Belikin.  It is made here and costs about $1.25US for an 8 oz bottle when you have it delivered.  They deliver by the case for free.  It will cost $2.50 in a restaurant.
There is a place at the northern end of the island where the barrier reef and the island actually meet.  It is called Rocky Point.

The roads here are not good.  Even the side streets in town are dirt and are full of major ruts.  None of the roads can support big trucks especially when they are full of gravel, etc.  To get large equipment and big loads of material from one end of the island to the other they have to use barges.  These go by the front of our condo quite often.
Well, enough trivia for today.  I’ll do some more tomorrow.
